Hi! I'm Kelsey. I have been married to my husband for 5 years We have 2 wonderful children together that I am lucky enough to stay home with.. My daughter, Alannah, will be five this summer. My son, Aiden, turns two in the spring. I am a CAPPA trained doula working on my certification. I am also enrolled in the Childbirth Educator program and the Lactation Educator program.
Here is a little background on me. I am a Georgia native but grew up in Indiana. I met my husband when I moved back to Georgia. We fell in love, got married, and had a baby rather quickly. I was very uneducated during my first pregnancy and birth. Due to a low fluid level, my labor was induced at 38 weeks. The induction caused a whole series of interventions and left me with a very unsatisfactory birth experience. My sweet baby girl spent some time in the NICU. I tried to breastfeed her a few times, but gave up. She was raised on formula and disposable diapers. I went back to work for a healthcare company caring for pregnant mothers with diabetes. When my daughter turned 2, I got pregnant with my son.
From the beginning of the pregnancy with Aiden I was determined two accomplish two things. I wanted to go into labor naturally and I wanted to breastfeed him. I did go into labor with him naturally and on his due date. I wanted to go all natural, but gave into the pain medications I was offered. Our nursing relationship started off very rocky, but thanks to a very kind nurse and lactation educator we persisted. We overcame many challenges including me returning to work until he was 7 months old. He nursed until 17 months old when he self weaned. My breastfeeding journey helped me discover a whole new world of natural and attachment parenting. I started using cloth diapers and baby carriers, making baby food, co-sleeping, and using herbs instead of medicines as much as possible.
Looking back on both births there are things that I would change if I could. I know my experiences would have been different if I had support from someone educated and trained in that area. That is why I decided to become a doula. I have a passion for helping people. I want to help women have the best birth experience possible. Birth is a beautiful, empowering, and life changing experience and every women deserves for her birth experience to be special. All women are different and have different goals for their birth and parenting. I want to educate and support women so they will be able to make informed decisions regarding their individual goals. I am also a big supporter of breastfeeding and want to help moms and babies create a strong nursing relationship.
